Back After A Break

After nearly two seasons off I got offered a deal on a Toyota powered Gordge. This car has some great history with most of it being Teams Racing.

After a MAJOR rebuild the car débuted at our final club night. The handling was badly out but all was not lost tho as the car did go and stop and finish 3 races. The handling issue was remedied by Ken Hunter who helped me too get the car to a neutral set-up. His set-up knowledge was awesome and we soon had the car handling like a slow version of 337r…lol.

Our first major meeting was the Rotorua Easter Champs. The first night I decided to run a wide line so as not to get in the way of some of the faster cars and too get use to the new car and set-up, this worked well until I got turned around on the last lap of the first race and then hammered by what felt like the whole field of 30. Once the ringing had ended I hit the go button and the old girl fired up and then coughed a little, to my amazement it still drove strait and didn’t make any funny noises but I scored a dnf as I was about 20 metres from crossing the finish line and then the orange lights came on…. NICE. A quick inspection in the pits found the only damage was the left rear wheel gate was gone and the rear bumper had moved a little. Some clever work by the pity crew had the car fixed a ready for racing. The rest of the night was spent dodging spinning cars and trying to stay out of trouble which was easier said than done with 30 super stocks pushing and shoving but I did manage to stay midpack for my next two races.

Night two

I was hopeing for better things and was more confident with the car so I decided to just hold my race line until I got the bang on the rear bumper to say get outa my way. This worked for the my first race but the car started to make a funny banging noise on the final lap of the second race so I pulled off and we put the car on the trailer.

Off season plans are to freshen the motor and get some more horses out of it and also dry sump it. The chassis has already had the big rebuild so I will maybe just do side rails and rear bumper. A very knowledgeable friend if mine is going to take a look at the suspension side of the car and we hope to get more traction onto the dirt which should help the overall handling of the car.

I also hope to make the updates a little bit closer rather than two years apart…lol

Cheers Marmite
